“This movie is our tribute to the road-trip classics we love, the ’90s vibes we grew up with, and the wild idea of chasing everything no matter how outrageous,” Green Day said of New Year’s Rev, which premieres next month.

“We’ve put together a film!”
Green Day Announce Film New Year’s Rev to Debut at TIFF
Green Day have confirmed that their new film, New Year’s Rev, will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.
“Big news — we made a movie!” the band shared on social media. “We partnered with our friend Lee Kirk on a coming-of-age road trip comedy called New Year’s Rev. It follows a garage band, played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust, who believe they’ve landed their dream gig opening for us… only to find out it’s all an elaborate prank.
“It’s loaded with Green Day songs, mischief, and plenty of familiar faces — including Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Bobby Lee, and more. The film is our love letter to road trip movies, ’90s nostalgia, and chasing your dreams, no matter how outrageous.”
Speaking with Kerrang! earlier this summer, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said: “The cast was amazing. I’ve seen some of the footage, and it’s loosely inspired by our early days — with a few twists, of course. It’s a fun story set on New Year’s Eve, so it has that holiday feel. There’s a lot of heart, it’s funny, and it’s about three kids chasing their dream of being in a band and traveling the country, which we can definitely relate to.”
The film will screen at TIFF on September 12 — though tickets for the premiere have already sold out.

The three California punk staples will top the bill at the festival’s 20th anniversary edition, happening September 19–21 at Douglass Park. Also on the lineup are Jack White, Bad Religion, Alkaline Trio, Sex Pistols (with Frank Carter), The Pogues, Idles, and even The Beach Boys.
Other acts include The Damned, Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, Helmet, Shudder to Think, Shonen Knife, Jawbreaker, All Time Low, Militarie Gun, Superchunk, The Linda Lindas, and Lambrini Girls.
