The Kinks’ Dave Davies Leaves the Door Open to Reuniting with Brother Ray Years After the Band Split

The Kinks disbanded in 1996, while brothers Dave and Ray Davies last performed together onstage in 2015.
More than 10 years have passed since Kinks brothers Ray and Dave Davies performed together, and Dave isn’t ruling out the possibility that the legendary siblings could eventually reunite.
The brothers are currently working together on an art exhibition in London, but Dave, 79, admitted that he remains uncertain about what their relationship or professional future might look like. When asked whether another Kinks reunion could happen, he offered a cautious response, saying he wouldn’t completely dismiss the idea.
Dave and Ray, 82, last appeared onstage together in London in December 2015. Ray made an unexpected appearance during one of Dave’s solo performances, joining his brother for a rendition of the Kinks’ classic “You Really Got Me.” It remains their only shared performance since the band officially broke up in 1996.
The brothers’ relationship has been complicated over the decades. The Kinks formed in 1962 and became one of Britain’s most influential rock groups, but Dave has acknowledged that there were periods when tensions between him and Ray became so intense that he would leave the recording studio.
Despite their differences, the siblings have occasionally found their way back to one another. In 2022, Dave posted a photo of himself with Ray on Instagram after they spent time together looking through old footage from a Kinks tour in the early 1970s.
The Kinks released their final studio album, To the Bone, in 1994. A decade later, Dave experienced a serious stroke, an event he later said contributed to a temporary reconciliation with Ray.
Looking back on their turbulent relationship, Dave suggested that their lifelong conflicts ultimately taught him important lessons about people, family and life. He also reflected on how being brothers meant they were connected in a way that could never simply be walked away from.
The current art collaboration appears to have brought the two closer once again. Dave’s girlfriend, Rebecca Wilson, told The Times that she shared some of his artwork on Instagram, which caught Ray’s attention and helped reconnect the siblings.
Their joint exhibition, The Kinks: Brothers, is now being presented in London alongside artist Christian Furr. Dave described the renewed bond with his brother as remarkable, saying the pair have been enjoying spending time together.
Although their relationship has moved through periods of closeness and conflict, Dave said there has always been an almost instinctive connection between the brothers — something he believes dates back to their childhood.
