“The Beatles’ iconic 1995 project makes its return — featuring an added episode, previously unheard tracks, and a refreshed coffee table book designed for both longtime fans and new listeners.”
In November 1995, The Beatles Anthology reignited Beatlemania for a new audience through an ambitious multimedia project that blended a groundbreaking TV documentary with a six-disc archive of rarities and outtakes, plus a lavish coffee table book packed with stories and images from the band’s inner circle. The series gave John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr the chance to recount their own history — at times candid, humorous, contradictory, but always captivating.
Nearly three decades later, Anthology is returning in an expanded and fully restored edition. The original documentary — long regarded as a milestone in music storytelling — will premiere on Disney+ starting Nov. 26 in remastered quality. The restoration was led by Apple Corps with assistance from Peter Jackson’s team, who were behind the acclaimed 2021 docuseries Get Back.
All eight original episodes have been enhanced for today’s viewers, and for the first time, a ninth installment will be added. The new episode highlights never-before-seen footage of McCartney, Harrison, and Starr reuniting in the mid-1990s to shape the project and reflect on their shared legacy.
The music component arrives Nov. 21, when the Anthology albums return in expanded form across vinyl, CD, and digital platforms. Originally assembled by producer George Martin as an alternate history told through demos and studio outtakes, the set now spans four volumes.
The brand-new Anthology 4 includes 13 previously unreleased recordings along with updated mixes of the reunion singles “Free As a Bird” and “Real Love,” produced by Jeff Lynne. Both songs — originally built from John Lennon’s late-’70s home tapes — appear here alongside “Now and Then,” the 2023 track completed by McCartney and Starr and promoted as the final Beatles single. Altogether, the four volumes feature 191 tracks, offered in deluxe box sets complete with fresh liner notes and archival material for fans and collectors.
Also part of the rollout is the 25th-anniversary edition of The Beatles Anthology book, due Oct. 14. The 368-page volume revisits the band’s journey in their own voices, supplemented with insights from collaborators like producer George Martin and press officer Derek Taylor. With more than 1,300 photos and documents, the book paints a vivid picture of the Beatles’ meteoric rise, creative evolution, and enduring influence.
