Sid Wilson has spent almost 30 years with the heavy metal band, having joined in 1998 just before the release of Slipknot’s self-titled debut album.
Slipknot guitarist Jim Root has spoken out following reports claiming that longtime band member Sid Wilson is no longer part of the group.
On July 31, TMZ reported that Wilson, the band’s DJ and keyboardist, had allegedly been dismissed from Slipknot, bringing his nearly three-decade tenure to an end. The report, which cited a source said to have direct knowledge of the situation, claimed the decision became official earlier that day.
Not long after the story surfaced, Root appeared to respond indirectly through an Instagram Stories post set to Slipknot’s 2008 track “‘Til We Die.” Without mentioning Wilson by name, the guitarist encouraged fans not to immediately accept everything they read online. He urged people to pause, think carefully, and wait for additional information before drawing conclusions.
The reason behind Wilson’s reported departure has not been confirmed. Representatives for both the musician and Slipknot did not immediately respond to requests for comment from PEOPLE.
Wilson has been with Slipknot since 1998, joining the band shortly before the release of its self-titled debut album. Over the years, he became a key part of the group’s signature sound and stage presence.
Other current members of Slipknot, including founding percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan, guitarist Mick Thomson, and vocalist Corey Taylor, have not publicly addressed the reports. The band’s most recent concert took place at the Inkcarceration music and tattoo festival in Ohio in July 2025.
Outside of his music career, Wilson recently made headlines after proposing to Kelly Osbourne during Ozzy Osbourne’s farewell concert, which took place before the legendary Black Sabbath frontman’s death at age 76.
The reports surrounding Wilson’s status in Slipknot come as questions also continue to surround his personal life. Earlier this year, PEOPLE reported that Wilson and Osbourne, who share a 3-year-old son named Sidney, had been working through difficulties in their relationship amid speculation that their engagement had ended.
According to a source, Kelly has been dealing with an emotionally difficult period for several reasons. The insider said she remains deeply affected by her father Ozzy’s passing and has been concentrating much of her attention on supporting her mother during this challenging time, noting that the bond between the two is especially strong.
