Slipknot has officially confirmed its split from longtime member Sid Wilson.
On Friday, Aug. 14, the nu metal band announced that it had ended its professional relationship with Wilson, 49, who had been part of the group for nearly three decades as its DJ and keyboardist.
“Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson,” the statement posted through the band’s Knotfest Instagram account said. The group also wished Wilson well as he moves forward with his future projects.
Knotfest later clarified in its caption that Slipknot and Wilson had parted ways. The announcement was also briefly posted on Slipknot’s official social media account and website before the band’s social media post was removed. Stereogum subsequently shared a screenshot of the deleted statement.
A representative for Slipknot had not responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment as of Saturday, Aug. 15.
The confirmation came a little more than two weeks after reports first surfaced that Wilson had been removed from the band.
On July 31, TMZ reported that Wilson had been permanently dismissed from Slipknot, citing a source described as having direct knowledge of the situation. At the time, the specific reason behind his reported departure was not publicly known.
That same day, Slipknot guitarist James “Jim” Root appeared to address the reports in a cryptic Instagram Stories post. Accompanying the band’s 2008 song “‘Til We Die,” Root urged fans not to immediately accept everything they read and encouraged them to wait for additional information before reaching conclusions.
Wilson had been a member of Slipknot since 1998, joining the group shortly before the release of its self-titled debut album. Over the following 28 years, he became an established part of the band’s distinctive sound and stage presence.
His most recent known performance with Slipknot took place at Inkcarceration, a music and tattoo festival in Ohio, in July 2025.
