Slash Confirms a New Guns N’ Roses Album Is on the Way: “There’s So Much Material”
Slash has revealed that a new Guns N’ Roses album is officially in the works. Speaking in a recent Guitar World interview, the guitarist confirmed that the band has plenty of material ready — it’s now just a matter of sitting down and finishing it.
“There’s so much material at this point — it’s really about finding the discipline to sit down and get into it,” Slash said, as reported by Rolling Stone.
He also explained that Guns N’ Roses doesn’t usually plan far ahead when it comes to recording. “In my experience, you can never plan with Guns. Every time we try to say, ‘Let’s take this time to do this,’ it always falls apart,” he shared.
Despite that unpredictability, Slash assured fans that the new project will eventually happen. “So it’s coming,” he promised. “It’ll just happen when it happens.”
Slash and bassist Duff McKagan rejoined Guns N’ Roses in 2016, marking the band’s long-awaited reunion with frontman Axl Rose. While the lineup has since released several reworked tracks from the Chinese Democracy era, fans have been eagerly waiting for a full album of brand-new music.
When the group first reunited, the focus was on touring and giving fans a chance to see Slash and McKagan perform with Axl again. After several years on the road, they began discussing the idea of creating new material.
Their first release following the reunion was “Shadow of Your Love,” an old recording from the Appetite for Destruction sessions that was shared in 2018 alongside the 30th anniversary box set. In 2021, the band premiered “Absurd” live before releasing its studio version, followed shortly by “Hard Skool.” Both songs were originally written in the 2000s and later revamped with Slash and McKagan’s contributions.
More recently, in late 2023, Guns N’ Roses dropped two additional reworked tracks from the Chinese Democracy vault — “Perhaps” and “The General” — hinting that more music was on the way.
In 2024, Slash reiterated that the band has been actively developing new material. “Guns N’ Roses are trying to make their own record,” he told NME while promoting his solo album Orgy of the Damned. “I’m working with them in that capacity, but this was my own side thing — I wasn’t bringing anyone else in.”
