Saxon Unveil Gods of Thunder and Drop Powerful Title Track Inspired by Celtic Mythology

Gods of Thunder marks Saxon’s 25th studio album and is set to be released ahead of the band’s UK tour next year.

Veteran British heavy metal band Saxon has announced its next studio album, Gods of Thunder, which will follow 2024’s Hell, Fire and Damnation. The band’s 25th album is scheduled for release through Silver Lining Music on Jan. 22, with the title song arriving as the first single.

Frontman Biff Byford describes “Gods of Thunder” as an epic track rooted in Celtic mythology. He says the song captures the energy and intensity associated with classic heavy metal and encourages fans to turn up the volume and get ready to headbang.

Byford handled production duties on the new record, while longtime Saxon collaborator Andy Sneap took care of the mixing. Sneap has been involved with every Saxon album released since 2013’s Sacrifice.

The album also marks the second Saxon record to feature Brian Tatler, best known as the guitarist for Diamond Head. Tatler originally joined Saxon as a touring guitarist in 2023 before becoming part of the band’s recorded lineup.

Reflecting on the recording process, Byford said the band had a great time putting the album together and confidently described the new project as one that will be difficult to top.
