Paul McCartney is celebrating 14 years of marriage with his “lovely” wife, Nancy Shevell.
On Wednesday, Oct. 9, the 83-year-old Beatles legend posted a black-and-white photo of the couple on Instagram, showing them about to share an embrace onstage. He captioned the image, “Happy Anniversary to my lovely missus, Nancy – Paul.”
McCartney and Shevell, 65, first met in 2007 and announced their engagement four years later, in May 2011. They married less than six months after, in an intimate ceremony at London’s Old Marylebone Town Hall on Oct. 9, 2011, surrounded by family and close friends.
Since their wedding, the pair have mostly kept their relationship private. When they do speak about it publicly, they often describe their bond as simple and grounded.
In April, during a Q&A on the official Beatles website, a fan asked McCartney how he and Nancy spend their downtime together.
“We chat and catch up with each other. We eat lunch or dinner — well, any meal really, since we love cooking,” he replied. “Sometimes we’ll watch something on TV together, and I always read before bed, usually a biography, while Nancy finishes a show. We’re pretty much like any other normal couple.”
Shevell is McCartney’s third wife. He was previously married to Linda McCartney from 1969 until her passing in 1998 due to breast cancer. The two shared four children — Heather, Mary, Stella, and James. McCartney also has a daughter, Beatrice, 21, from his marriage to Heather Mills. Shevell has one son, Arlen, from a prior relationship.
In August, McCartney and Shevell made a rare public appearance together, stepping out for a date night at a Metallica concert held at Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, New York. The couple was photographed arriving at the intimate venue, which also drew several other celebrities, including Michael J. Fox, Sylvester Stallone, Andy Cohen, Colin Jost, and Maria Menounos.
