Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Spinal Tap Return in Hilarious First Look at Spinal Tap II: The End Continues

By Website Content Manager

After 41 years, the long-awaited sequel to the original Spinal Tap film has finally dropped its first trailer.

The highly anticipated first trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues has officially arrived. Over four decades after the cult classic This Is Spinal Tap debuted, fans are finally getting a sneak peek at the sequel, which features cameos from music legends Paul McCartney, Elton John, and The Roots’ Questlove. The two-minute trailer shows the aging rockers—still as clueless as ever—gearing up for a reunion concert in New Orleans.

According to the film’s synopsis, “Forty-one years after their groundbreaking debut, the once-close bandmates David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls (played by Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer) are compelled to come together for one last performance.”

Also returning is the original fictional documentarian Marty Di Bergi (Rob Reiner), who once again attempts to chronicle the lives of his favorite heavy metal icons as they reflect on aging, legacy, and the hope that their latest drummer avoids the band’s notorious curse of untimely ends.

Joined by rock royalty McCartney and John, the band tries to reconcile with their chaotic history in the hopes that this concert cements their place in rock’s hall of fame.

In a humorous moment from the trailer, Di Bergi asks bassist Derek Smalls why the band chose New Orleans for their comeback gig.

Smalls responds dryly, “There was a cancellation.” When asked who canceled, he replies, “An evening with Stormy Daniels.”

The announcement of Spinal Tap II first surfaced in May 2022 when director Rob Reiner revealed to Deadline that fans had been clamoring for a sequel for years. “People are always asking, why not make another one?” Reiner said. “For the longest time, we said no. But once the right idea came along, we knew we had to do it—not just to revisit the original, but to build on it in a meaningful way.”

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues is scheduled to hit theaters on September 25.
