The two surviving members of The Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, contribute vocals to a track titled “Home to Us,” a tribute to their hometown of Liverpool.
Paul McCartney has announced that his upcoming solo album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, will include a duet with fellow former Beatle Ringo Starr.
The record, which will be released on May 29 through MPL/Capitol, marks McCartney’s first solo project in over five years. One of its songs, “Home to Us,” features Starr on drums as well as shared vocals with McCartney.
During a small listening event hosted by McCartney and producer Andrew Watt, they discussed how each track was created. McCartney explained that Starr’s involvement on “Home to Us” came later in the process and that there was some initial confusion about his contribution.
According to McCartney, Starr originally visited Watt’s studio and recorded a brief drum part, believing it would be developed further in production. When McCartney later heard the recording, he was impressed and decided to build the track around it, eventually shaping it into a song about their shared upbringing in Liverpool and inviting Starr to sing on it.
However, Starr initially only contributed to the chorus, leading McCartney to assume he might not have fully connected with the song. After further discussion, the pair clarified the arrangement, and the track ultimately became a full duet.
McCartney noted that the collaboration was especially meaningful since it marks a rare instance of Starr sharing a duet with another Beatle.
