Ozzy Osbourne Documentary Postponed Following Family’s Wishes
The premiere of a BBC documentary chronicling Ozzy Osbourne’s final years has been delayed.
Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home was originally slated to air on BBC One on Monday, Aug. 18, less than a month after the legendary rocker passed away on July 22 at age 76. However, the broadcaster removed it from the schedule and confirmed it will be rescheduled for a later date.
Initially, the BBC provided no explanation for the sudden change. “The film has moved in the schedules and we’ll confirm new tx details in due course,” a spokesperson told Variety on Aug. 18.
The following day, the network clarified that the decision came at the request of the Osbourne family. “Our sympathies are with the Osbourne family at this difficult time. We are respecting the family’s wishes to wait a bit longer before airing this very special film,” the BBC said in a statement.
The hour-long documentary was first announced in 2022 as part of a docuseries called Home to Roost, but later evolved into a feature film amid Osbourne’s declining health. Promotional stills from the project, including an image of Ozzy with his wife Sharon, were shared earlier this summer.
According to its synopsis, Coming Home offers “a moving portrait of one of the world’s most entertaining families at a pivotal moment in their history.” The film highlights both the deep bond between Ozzy and Sharon during their 43-year marriage and the devotion of their children. As daughter Kelly poignantly remarks in the film: “The iron man isn’t made of iron.”
Osbourne passed away on July 22, just weeks after performing with Black Sabbath for the final time. His family confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
His death certificate listed “hospital cardiac arrest” and “acute myocardial infarction” as the causes of death, with coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction cited as contributing factors.
A family source told PEOPLE in July that Sharon Osbourne has been leaning on her children — Aimee, Kelly, and Jack — during this period of mourning. “Sharon’s heartbroken but very proud of the life the family built together,” the source said. “The kids are making sure she’s never alone — they’ve been with her constantly, sharing stories, laughing through the tears, and just being together.”
