My Chemical Romance Surprises Fans with Live Debut of Unreleased Track “War Beneath the Rain” in Los Angeles
My Chemical Romance stunned fans in Los Angeles on Saturday night by performing an unreleased song live for the first time — and fans are having strong reactions.
The band is currently on their “Long Live” The Black Parade North American Tour, which has included four shows so far, with the most recent two taking place at Dodger Stadium on July 26 and 27.
Each night of the tour is divided into two segments. The first set features a complete performance of their iconic 2006 album The Black Parade, enhanced with a developing storyline and possible hidden surprises for fans. The second set draws from the band’s broader catalog and occasionally includes a cover or two.
During the July 26 show, concertgoers were in for a treat as the band unveiled an unreleased track titled “War Beneath the Rain.”
“We worked on an album that never saw the light of day, and this was one of our favorite songs from those sessions,” frontman Gerard Way told the crowd before performing the song for the first time.
For fans hoping that the live debut of unreleased material signals a new album, it may not be happening anytime soon.
Before the song began, Way explained that the unreleased music had been recorded with producer Doug McKean, who sadly passed away in 2022 from a brain hemorrhage at the age of 54. McKean’s family was present at the show that evening, adding extra emotional weight to the performance.
Around the time of McKean’s passing, My Chemical Romance released their first song in eight years — “The Foundations of Decay.” It’s still unclear whether that single and “War Beneath the Rain” were part of a shelved album that fans speculate might have been titled The Paper Kingdom.
Despite no official confirmation of a new record, speculation continues to grow online, as fans analyze the setlists, lyrics, and tour visuals for clues.
