“On August 28, the heavy metal legends played one of their most intimate concerts ever in Long Island.”
Metallica have unveiled professional footage of their blistering performance of Master of Puppets in front of just 500 fans.
The video captures the band’s ultra-intimate August 28 concert at the Stephen Talkhouse in Long Island, New York — one of the smallest shows of their career. The gig was staged to celebrate the launch of Maximum Metallica, a SiriusXM channel devoted entirely to the group’s music, interviews, and live material.
The show was announced on August 6, with access limited to winners of sweepstakes through the band’s fan club and SiriusXM’s website. Maximum Metallica debuted the following day, August 29, on channel 42 and the SiriusXM app, with audio from the Talkhouse performance broadcast during the week of September 1.
Metal Hammer journalist Lina Khatib, who attended the event, gave the night a rare five-star review. “This is their first live outing since sharing the stage with Ozzy Osbourne at his July retirement concert, Back To The Beginning — and also one of the most intimate of their career,” she wrote. “The sound is massive, the energy electric. Even Metallica’s families and friends said they couldn’t remember the last time they’d seen them like this.”
Looking ahead, Metallica will head to Oceania and the Middle East this November and December, before embarking on a European run from May through July. Support acts include Pantera, Avatar, Gojira, and Knocked Loose.
Meanwhile, rumors are swirling that the band could soon take over The Sphere in Las Vegas for a residency. Drummer Lars Ulrich remained coy when asked by Howard Stern, but bassist Robert Trujillo was enthusiastic about the idea. “No heavy rock band has done this,” he said. “There’s so much history in our music, and the potential for incredible visuals. I’d love to see it happen. Let’s see where it goes.”
