Metal For Nepal Launches Emergency Fundraiser After Devastating Flash Flood Leaves 332 Dead and More Than 900 Missing

By Website Content Manager

“The metal and tattoo communities have a long history of coming together to support those facing hardship, and they’re stepping up once again during this crisis.”

The disaster struck the Nepalese districts of Rasuwa and Nuwakot on the morning of Aug. 26, forcing families from their homes and causing significant damage to local infrastructure. Experts believe the flooding may have been caused by a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) originating across the border in Tibet.

According to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 910 people remain missing and cannot currently be contacted. Among those unaccounted for are 517 foreign nationals, 44 Nepal Army personnel and 28 police officers. Rescue teams continue to search affected areas.

Metal For Nepal, which previously helped communities recover following Nepal’s devastating 2015 earthquake, is once again coordinating an international relief effort. The organization, which brings together members of the global music and arts community, is partnering with NGOs in Nepal to get assistance to those affected as quickly as possible.

The initial response will focus on necessities such as emergency provisions and access to clean drinking water, while additional support will be directed toward longer-term recovery and reconstruction. Children will receive particular attention because of their heightened vulnerability immediately following a major disaster, although the wider relief campaign will support people across the affected communities.

“We need to come together exactly like we did after the 2015 earthquake,” Metal For Nepal director Flower KC said. “The heavy metal and tattoo community has always shown up for people in need, and this moment is no different. Every donation goes straight toward getting families and children the support they need right now.”
