Jon Bon Jovi Says He Has Fully Recovered and Is Ready to Return to Touring Four Years After Vocal Surgery

By Website Content Manager

Bon Jovi’s Forever tour is set to begin on July 7 with an opening show at Madison Square Garden.

Jon Bon Jovi is enjoying a rare moment of relaxation at his Palm Beach, Florida home before returning to work with his band. Sitting barefoot beside the pool on a sunny afternoon, the rock icon appears content as he prepares for the upcoming Forever tour, which begins in July.

The 64-year-old singer is also embracing a new chapter in his personal life: grandfatherhood. Referring to a bracelet that reads “Papa Jon,” he joked about his new title. His son Jake Bongiovi and daughter-in-law Millie Bobby Brown welcomed a baby girl in 2024, while his eldest son, Jesse Bongiovi, and his wife also became parents to a daughter a few months later. Bon Jovi expressed how much joy the growing family has brought him, describing the experience as incredibly rewarding.

His renewed appreciation for life’s simple pleasures comes after overcoming a major health challenge. Several years ago, Bon Jovi underwent surgery to address a serious vocal cord issue that left his future as a touring performer uncertain. At the time, he was unsure whether he would ever be able to return to the stage. Now, with the launch of the band’s Forever tour approaching, he says the experience has changed his outlook on life.

Rather than constantly focusing on future goals, Bon Jovi now values everyday moments. Whether spending time with his granddaughter, playing tennis, or simply enjoying nature, he has learned to be more present and grateful. He credits his recovery journey with helping him develop a deeper appreciation for each day.

Following the band’s 2022 tour, he underwent a vocal cord medialization procedure to repair damage that had affected his singing voice. Because he had always taken care of his vocal health and avoided behaviors that could harm it, learning that one of his vocal cords was deteriorating came as a surprise.

Although the operation was successful, regaining full vocal strength required years of rehabilitation, vocal training, and patience. Looking back, Bon Jovi admits the recovery took far longer than he anticipated, but he is now confident that his voice has fully healed. Throughout the process, he never lost hope that he would eventually return to performing.

He also praised his bandmates for standing by him during the difficult period. According to Bon Jovi, they never questioned his ability to recover, nor did they pursue separate paths while waiting for his return. He said their loyalty and support strengthened the bond they share as a group and deepened his appreciation for them.

The band’s Forever tour begins on July 7 with a nine-show residency at Madison Square Garden before continuing with sold-out performances across England and Ireland.

For Bon Jovi, performing live is about more than technical perfection. He describes concerts as a unique connection between himself, the band, and the audience. The energy exchanged during a live show remains one of the most meaningful aspects of his career and continues to inspire him after decades in the spotlight.

Born John Francis Bongiovi Jr. in New Jersey, Bon Jovi founded the band in the early 1980s. Their breakthrough came with the release of “Runaway” in 1984, followed by the hugely successful album Slippery When Wet in 1986. Featuring hits such as You Give Love a Bad Name, the album propelled the group to international fame and demonstrated the universal appeal of music, a lesson Bon Jovi says he learned while performing for audiences around the world.
