Green Day Members Played 31-Song Cover Set at Intimate California Venue Before Their Second Coachella Headlining Performance
Before taking the stage for their second headlining set at Coachella last week, members of Green Day performed a special 31-song covers show at a small club in California.
The band had an exciting week, headlining Coachella during both weekends (April 12 and April 19). In between their massive festival performances, they played a more intimate gig under a different name in a nearby town.
On April 17, the group performed at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, California. However, they didn’t play as Green Day but as their side project, The Coverups, which includes Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, touring guitarist Jason White, audio engineer Chris Dugan, and Bill Schneider on bass.
Their set featured 31 covers from a variety of genres and artists, including punk legends like the Ramones, The Clash, and Misfits, as well as hair metal bands such as Motley Crue and Poison, glam rock icons like David Bowie and Sweet, and even Ozzy Osbourne.
Interestingly, they performed Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” three times during the show, each time cutting off after the second verse on the second and third attempts. You can see a clip from one of their Zeppelin renditions below, along with the full setlist from the night.
