Green Day’s frontman brought a fan onstage to close the show with the planned finale, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).”

Green Day Fan Trolls Billie Joe Armstrong with Surprise Oasis Cover — and Liam Gallagher Approves

Green Day had a surprise twist during their June 30 show in Luxembourg when a fan pulled a bold onstage stunt that even caught frontman Billie Joe Armstrong off guard.

As part of their performance at Luxexpo, Armstrong invited a concertgoer on stage to help close out the night with the band’s usual finale, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),” their 1997 acoustic classic from Nimrod. But things took an unexpected turn.

In videos shared by fans on TikTok, the guest began strumming the unmistakable chords to Oasis’s “Wonderwall” instead. Armstrong, 53, briefly went along with the switch-up, singing the song’s opening lines before realizing the fan wasn’t joking.

“You said you could play this one,” Armstrong told the fan, clearly surprised and referring to the Green Day song they had agreed on. As the impromptu guitarist kept playing “Wonderwall,” Armstrong shouted, “Oh, f—!”

In another clip, Armstrong is seen taking the guitar back from the fan and wryly saying, “Nice try,” before launching into the closing number himself.

The moment quickly went viral, and Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher even weighed in. Responding to the clip on X (formerly Twitter), Gallagher gave his stamp of approval, calling the unexpected cover the “best song of the night.”

Fans on TikTok also got in on the joke, poking fun at the situation. One quipped, “Today is gonna be the day that Billie takes the guitar away,” referencing the “Wonderwall” lyrics. Others chimed in: “Bro was given the chance and he took it,” and “This is what happens when you hand someone an acoustic guitar—there’s always a risk they’ll play Wonderwall.”

Another added, “Billie taking a moment to realize what’s happening is comedy gold.”

This isn’t the first time Armstrong has had an intense fan interaction onstage recently. Just over a week earlier, during Green Day’s June 22 appearance at Germany’s Hurricane Festival, he appeared to shout at a fan off-camera who was allegedly spraying water at him with a water gun.

Green Day is currently touring across Europe before bringing their Saviors tour to North and South America, wrapping up in Highland, California, in late September.

Meanwhile, Oasis is preparing to kick off their highly anticipated reunion tour on July 4 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. The tour will span Europe, North America, Asia, Australia, and South America through the rest of the year.
