Queen’s Brian May and Freddie Mercury’s sister Kashmira Bulsara were present at the opening ceremony.
A new memorial garden honoring late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury has officially opened in Feltham, West London. The event was attended by Queen guitarist Brian May, his wife Anita Dobson, and Mercury’s younger sister, Kashmira Bulsara.
The site, located at Feltham Green, forms part of the wider Feltham Green masterplan, a collaboration between Hounslow Borough Council and the Friends of Feltham Green. Features include two cherry trees gifted by Japanese fans, a rose bush contributed by Bulsara, an eco-cabin designed as a community hub, and a commemorative plaque recognizing Mercury’s ties to the area.
“It’s wonderful,” May told the BBC. “The whole project is fantastic. It’s heartening to see such a strong community spirit in Feltham. Back in the day it wasn’t like this, and now there’s this great sense of togetherness among artists and craftspeople. It’s touching that they’ve celebrated Freddie in this way, as one of their own.”
Bulsara added, “It’s lovely that people continue to remember my brother.”
Hounslow Council Leader Shantanu Rajawat described the project as a revitalization of the town’s center: “Feltham Green has always been at the heart of the community, and today we’ve delivered a space that is safer, greener, and more inviting for everyone. The Freddie Mercury Memorial Garden is a fitting tribute to one of Feltham’s most iconic residents, while the Eco Cabin reflects our commitment to sustainable, community-led regeneration.”
He noted the effort is part of the wider Future Feltham program, which aims to bring new housing, jobs, and community spaces to the area while reinforcing local identity.
The dedication comes just a week after Queen announced 50th-anniversary reissues of A Night at the Opera and Bohemian Rhapsody.
