“In an Instagram post on Sunday, Jan. 11, he expressed that his admiration and respect for them is beyond words.”
Former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg has opened up about leaving Suicidal Tendencies.
On Sunday, Jan. 11, the 35-year-old musician shared his decision in an Instagram post, reflecting on his time with the band.
“As 2026 gets underway, I want to thank @suicidaltendencies for an incredible year and a half of shows,” Jay wrote. “It’s been an absolute blast.”
Weinberg, son of longtime E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg, revealed that he will be focusing on family life as he and his wife, Chloe, prepare for the arrival of their first child.
“I’ve been pouring my energy into passion projects like @portraitsofanapparition, collaborating on new works, building a proper home studio, and a few other projects I can’t announce just yet (👀),” he said. “Even though there’s still a lot to finish over the next five months, it’s been rewarding to bring these creative endeavors to completion before shifting focus to becoming a first-time dad.”
He expressed deep gratitude for his Suicidal Tendencies bandmates and their fans.
“Even though I won’t be playing with the guys, my respect and love for them, the Suicidal Army, and all the cyco fans I’ve met across six continents is beyond words,” Jay wrote. “You welcomed me when I needed it most and let me truly feel the message of ‘You Can’t Bring Me Down.’ I can’t thank you enough and I’m excited to see what’s next for all of you.”
Weinberg also reflected on the profound influence Suicidal Tendencies had on his drumming career.
“So many drumming heroes have shaped this band’s legacy, and it’s been the honor of a lifetime to contribute to it in my own way,” he said.
In November 2025, Jay and Chloe announced on Instagram that they were expecting their first child, calling it their “most exciting adventure yet.”
This follows his departure from Slipknot, which the band announced in November 2023. Jay later described the news as “heartbreaking and blindsiding,” revealing he learned of it over the phone. In a subsequent Instagram post, he reflected on his decade-long tenure with Slipknot and thanked fans for their support.
“This isn’t the end of my journey by any means,” he added, emphasizing his continued passion for music and creativity. Slipknot had stated they made the “creative decision … to part ways” with Weinberg in November 2023.
