Dee Snider Says Sorry to Kelly Osbourne Following Remarks About Ozzy Osbourne’s Songwriting Credits

By Website Content Manager

“I regret that my words caused you pain,” Snider wrote in a post on X on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Dee Snider has apologized to Kelly Osbourne after making remarks about the songwriting contributions of her late father, Ozzy Osbourne.

The Twisted Sister frontman issued the apology on X on Tuesday, Aug. 18, after a user suggested that Kelly’s reaction stemmed from concerns that Snider’s comments could be seen as diminishing Ozzy’s musical legacy rather than disputing the accuracy of the songwriting history.

The user encouraged Snider to acknowledge Kelly’s feelings and clarify that causing offense was never his intention. Snider, 71, responded by thanking the user, saying he had been trying to determine the appropriate way to address the situation.

In a subsequent post, Snider spoke directly to Kelly. “I’m sorry what I said hurt you. It was never my intent. My sympathies on the loss of your dad,” he wrote.

PEOPLE has contacted Kelly’s representatives for a response.

The dispute began when a social media user brought up bassist Bob Daisley’s past claim that he contributed a significant amount of the lyrics to Ozzy’s solo album No Rest for the Wicked. According to the claim, Daisley was later dismissed and informed that his lyrics would not be used.

Snider then entered the discussion and made further comments about Daisley’s songwriting contributions, while also naming other musicians who had written material for Ozzy and Black Sabbath.

Snider claimed that Daisley had written lyrics for Ozzy’s first two solo albums and suggested that he may have received payment for work on additional records without receiving songwriting credit. He also referenced Geezer Butler’s work with Black Sabbath and Lemmy Kilmister’s contributions to Ozzy’s music.

Kelly subsequently defended her father through a statement posted to her Instagram Stories. She emphasized that Ozzy’s accomplishments as a musician, songwriter, vocalist and bandleader were well established and that his friends, collaborators and millions of fans understood the impact he had made throughout his career.

She further argued that her father’s influence would continue long after his death.

Kelly also took aim at Snider for weighing in on Ozzy’s abilities and drawing comparisons between their respective careers. In a pointed remark, she referenced the age difference between them and noted that Snider’s most recent hit came more than four decades ago, around the time she was born.
