“The singer turned to the man preparing to propose and asked, ‘Is she your partner? Yes? Not anyone else’s?’”
Coldplay Still Champions Love
During their August 22 concert at London’s Wembley Stadium, Coldplay helped set the stage for a fan’s marriage proposal — but not before making sure everything checked out.
A TikTok video captured the lighthearted exchange, where frontman Chris Martin teased the couple before giving the go-ahead. One fan held up a sign on the Jumbotron that read, “I want to propose” with an arrow toward his girlfriend. After spotting it, the 48-year-old singer responded, “All right, my friend, you’ll need to nod while I run through a few quick security checks.”
Martin’s playful interrogation started with, “Is she really your partner? Not anyone else’s?” After a nod of confirmation, he added, “You’re not cousins or siblings, right? Not AI? Definitely real people? Okay then, we can move forward.”
He then transitioned into a song, singing, “My beautiful brother, here’s some free advice. As you get ready before our eyes, I suggest you get down on one knee.”
Cheers erupted as the man followed instructions and proposed. His girlfriend smiled, covered her face, and after saying yes, kissed her new fiancé.
Martin wrapped the moment with another impromptu verse: “Congratulations, my brother and sister. What a wonderful match. On a day like this, I urge you to kiss. May your happiness last a lifetime.”
This proposal came just weeks after Coldplay made headlines for the viral “kiss cam” moment involving former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR executive Kristin Cabot, who awkwardly hid their faces when the cameras found them at a July show. Martin had joked from the stage, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
At the band’s next concert after the incident, Martin humorously introduced the audience camera segment by saying, “We’d like to greet some of you in the crowd. The way we’ll do that is by putting you up on the big screen.” He then added with a grin, “So, if you haven’t done your makeup yet, now’s your chance.”
