Bruce Springsteen offered words of prayer and reflection for Donald Trump following a reported shooting incident connected to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25.
During a concert in Austin, Texas with the E Street Band the next day, the 76-year-old musician addressed the situation while also speaking out against political violence, according to fan-recorded clips shared online.
He opened the show by expressing hope for the safety of U.S. service members stationed abroad, then added a message of relief that no one—including Trump, members of his administration, or dinner attendees—was harmed during the incident.
Springsteen also emphasized that while political differences and criticism of those in power are part of democratic life, violence is never an acceptable response in the United States.
The incident occurred when security evacuated Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and press secretary Karoline Leavitt after an armed individual allegedly opened fire at the event. Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of California.
Trump later commented that he was not alarmed by the situation, saying he understood the unpredictability of the world and that even well-secured events can face unexpected dangers.
The event came amid heightened concerns, as it was reported to be at least the third alleged attempt targeting Trump in recent years.
Springsteen’s remarks also come against the backdrop of his long-standing political disagreements with Trump. The musician has frequently criticized the president during performances and interviews, while Trump has also responded publicly with personal remarks directed at him.
In past appearances, Springsteen has voiced strong criticism of Trump’s administration and supported Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, describing Trump as a particularly dangerous presidential contender in his view.
