Doctors have advised Michaels to take more time to recover “immediately,” following his return to the stage on Aug. 21 after taking several weeks off.
Bret Michaels is stepping away from the stage for the remainder of 2026 as he continues recovering from recent kidney stone surgeries.
The 63-year-old Poison singer returned to performing on Friday, Aug. 21, appearing at The Bowl at Sugar Hill in Sugar Hill, Georgia. It marked his first concert after several shows had been postponed while he recovered from his recent medical procedures. However, his comeback lasted only one night, as his team announced the following day that doctors had advised him to take additional time off.
According to a statement from Michaels Entertainment Group shared on Facebook on Saturday, Aug. 22, doctors and paramedics evaluated Michaels immediately after his comeback performance and determined that he still needed significant rest and recovery.
Michaels had been scheduled to appear at the Mountain Music Festival on Aug. 22, but that performance has also been canceled. His team said the singer will instead spend the next several months focusing on healing and regaining his strength.
His physicians, Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel, also released a statement explaining their decision to take Michaels off the road. They said the singer needs a gradual recovery period, particularly because performing in summer heat and humidity could affect his blood sugar levels.
Although Michaels was eager to resume touring, his medical team determined that continuing to perform was not the best choice for his recovery at this time.
His company expressed disappointment over canceling the remaining concerts of the year, including the Mountain Music Festival, private appearances and other scheduled performances. The statement added that the priority is for Michaels to return to the stage once he is fully recovered, healthy and ready to perform again.
The announcement came just a day after Michaels shared his excitement about returning to live performances following what he described as a recent “medical situation.” In a social media post before his Aug. 21 concert, the Poison frontman told fans he was thrilled to be performing again after his health setbacks.
Michaels had spent several weeks recovering after undergoing surgery for a complicated kidney stone blockage. He originally sought medical attention after experiencing severe kidney pain during a July 18 performance in Washington. His recovery also included waiting for a stent to be removed following the procedure.
