Billy Joel Cancels Entire Tour and Shares Health Update Following Recent Fall on Stage

By Website Content Manager

The “Piano Man” singer had earlier postponed several shows in March.

Billy Joel is canceling all upcoming concerts due to health concerns.

On Friday, May 23, the “Piano Man” singer revealed he was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition that has worsened following recent performances. This has affected his hearing, vision, and balance, according to a statement obtained by PEOPLE and shared on his Instagram.

At 76, Joel is currently receiving specialized physical therapy under medical guidance and has been advised to avoid performing while he recovers.

The statement emphasized that Joel is “grateful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully focused on prioritizing his health.” He also expressed appreciation for his fans’ support and looks forward to returning to the stage in the future.

“I’m truly sorry to let down our audience and thank you for your understanding,” Joel said.

Fans do not need to request refunds; all tickets will be automatically refunded to the original method of payment.

The canceled shows include his summer concerts in New York City as well as dates in New Orleans, Toronto, Santa Clara, Salt Lake City, Washington, D.C., and Liverpool.

The recent cancellations follow an incident in February when Joel fell during a concert at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. According to a fan-recorded video, while spinning and tossing his microphone to the crowd, Joel lost his balance and fell backward onto his side. Despite the fall, he quickly recovered and continued the performance without interruption.

In March, Joel announced he would be postponing concerts through June due to a “medical condition” requiring physical therapy under his doctors’ care.

“Joel is expected to make a full recovery,” his team stated on March 11, confirming that the tour would resume at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on July 5, 2025.

Joel shared on Instagram at that time, “While I regret having to postpone shows, my health must come first. I’m looking forward to returning to the stage and sharing the joy of live music with our incredible fans. Thank you for your understanding.”

Over his career, Joel has earned five Grammy Awards out of 23 nominations, sold over 150 million records, and scored 33 Top 40 hits. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.
