Alice Cooper Reunites with Original Band for First Album in Over 50 Years

Alice Cooper is reuniting with his original bandmates for a long-awaited project.

In an interview with Billboard on Monday, April 21, the rock legend, 77, revealed that he’ll be joining forces once again with guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neil Smith for a brand-new album — their first together in more than five decades. The record, titled The Revenge of Alice Cooper, is set to drop this July.

Reflecting on the reunion, Cooper said stepping back into the studio with his longtime bandmates felt surprisingly familiar. “It felt just like we were picking up where we left off after Muscle of Love,” their 1973 album, he shared. “Isn’t it crazy? After 50 years, everything just clicked into place.”

Alice Cooper’s Original Band Reunites, Rekindling Their Classic Chemistry

Bob Ezrin, the producer who helped shape Alice Cooper’s sound in the 1970s, says not much has changed in the band’s dynamic — even decades later.

“Sure, everyone’s older, wiser, and a bit more grounded,” Ezrin noted, “but when they’re all in the same room, it’s like time rewinds. They slip right back into that teenage groove, like they’re just hanging out at a diner after school.”

“It’s like they become their younger selves again — the way they were when they first started making music together over 50 years ago,” he added.

The first single from The Revenge of Alice Cooper, titled “Black Mamba,” will premiere April 22 on Cooper’s radio show. The album is a tribute to late guitarist Glen Buxton, who passed away in 1997. Buxton appears posthumously on two tracks: “What Happened to You,” which features a riff he had written, and “Return of the Spiders 2025,” a remixed version of a 1970 original.

Formed in 1964, the Alice Cooper Band made waves with hits like “I’m Eighteen,” “Poison,” and “No More Mr. Nice Guy.” After releasing seven albums, they amicably disbanded in 1974.

“There was no real drama,” Cooper said of the split. “No hard feelings—at least not for long.”

Alice Cooper took to Instagram to mark the announcement of the new album, calling it “The Return Album the World Was Afraid Of.” The post sparked excitement among longtime fans, many of whom shared their anticipation for the band’s long-awaited return.

“Here’s hoping it blends the best of classic Alice with something totally new,” one fan wrote. Another added, “I’ve been waiting for this since 1973!” A third enthusiast chimed in with, “Whatever this is, I need it now.”

The announcement has also stirred speculation about a possible tour, with many hoping the band will hit the road in support of their comeback.
