A family from Virginia says they owe their lives to Metallica, crediting the band and their faith for saving them from a deadly truck accident after taking their daughter to a Metallica concert.

The McKee family recounts that by going to bed early in preparation for driving their daughter to a Metallica concert the following day, they avoided a pickup truck that crashed into their living room.

An American family’s decision to attend a Metallica concert may have unknowingly spared them from a fatal accident.

David and Kristin McKee, residents of Goodview, Virginia, went to bed earlier than usual on May 6, preparing to take their 14-year-old daughter, Madeleine, to see metal legends Metallica perform at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg the following day.

This early bedtime was a departure from their normal routine of staying up late watching TV in the living room. That change in schedule kept them out of harm’s way when an out-of-control pickup truck crashed through the front of their house around 2 a.m.

The couple believes that if they had stuck to their usual nighttime habits, they might not have survived.

Kristin recounted to local station WDBJ7 how she and David decided to turn in early: “[I asked David], ‘Do you want to stay up?’ He said, ‘No, I think I’ll just go to bed.’ I said, ‘I’ll go to bed too.’ Then, a few hours later, we heard a loud explosion and shattering glass. Chaos followed immediately.”

She added, “We feel incredibly lucky that night. Our daughter could have been in the hallway and found us trapped under the debris. I thank God every day, and Metallica, for saving us.”

Madeleine developed a love for Metallica’s music largely thanks to her father and the band’s song “Master of Puppets” featured in the popular Netflix series Stranger Things Season 4. “That’s when it really took off for me,” she told WDBJ7.

The McKees are currently repairing their home and hope to return within six months.

Interestingly, Metallica recently announced a new documentary titled Metallica Saved My Life, directed by Jonas Åkerlund (Lords of Chaos). The film celebrates the band’s global fan community and their personal stories, featuring all four band members and actor Jason Momoa.
